Elixothrips brevisetis (Bagnall) View in CoL
( Figs 17 View FIGURES 2–17 , 40 View FIGURES 34–51 , 72 View FIGURES 65–76 , 105, 106 View FIGURES 92–106 )
Hoodothripiella ignacio Retana-Salazar, 2007: 24 View in CoL syn. n.
This is the only species in the genus Elixothrips View in CoL ( Fig. 17 View FIGURES 2–17 ). It is widespread on islands from the Indian and Pacific Oceans ( Mound & Marullo 1996), and in the Americas it is recorded from Brazil, Guadeloupe ( Mound & Marullo 1996), Martinique ( Rey 2002) and Cuba ( González & Castillo 2009). In Southern Brazil, it was observed causing silvering of banana fruits in the State of Santa Catarina ( Lima & Milanez 2013) ( Fig. 132 View FIGURES 121–138 ), but specimens have been collected in Cuiabá, State of Mato Grosso on leaves of Malpighia glabra View in CoL (11.iii.2016); in the State of Ceará on leaves of ruderal herbs in impacted mangrove plantings in Fortaleza (24.iv.2016) and on banana crops in Aratuba (12.vi.2018); and in Manaus, State of Amazonas, on leaves of Piper View in CoL sp. (1.viii.2019); in Areia, State of Paraíba on guava leaves (2.xi.2019); and in São Cristóvão, State of Sergipe, on leaves of unidentified plants (7.xi.2019). As indicated in the generic notes above, there are no character states to distinguish ignacio View in CoL from brevisetis View in CoL .
