Periclimenes hongkongensis Bruce, 1969: 259 View in CoL , 277 (key). — Bruce 1982b: 234 (list), 247, 264–264 (discussed), 276 (list), 278 (list), 280 (key), Figs. 8 View FIGURE 8 –10. — Chace & Bruce 1993: 57. — Li et al. 2004: 514 View Cited Treatment (list), 545.

Material. Holotype female cl 2.6 mm, RMNH D.33227.

Remarks. The holotype specimen examined is in a good condition, despite lacking both second and fifth pereiopods. The lower orbital margin is anteriorly produced, with an angulate tip and medial and ventral flanges. The third maxilliped bears 3–4 spinules distally on the ischiomerus, not mentioned in previous descriptions ( Bruce 1969, 1982b). The third and fourth ambulatory legs have a well-developed grasping dactylo-propodal armament; the propodus is slightly concave dorsally and deepest subdistally, with 2–3 pairs of long distoventral spines and 2–3 single spines proximally along the ventral border. This prehensile structure is similar to that of P. granulimanus or P. laevimanus sp. nov., but the dactyl is biunguiculate.

Periclimenes hongkongensis is regarded ( Bruce 1987; Berggren 1994) as a member of the P. obscurus Kemp, 1922 species group.

Color. Whitish opaque, with red chromatophores (for details see Berggren 1994: 792).

Host. The type specimens were caught by trawl, in apparent association with a holothurian, Aphelodactyla andamanensis (Bell) ( Bruce 1969) ; no host is reported for the subsequent record of a single specimen from China ( Li et al. 2004).

Distribution. South China Sea: Rocky Harbour, Hong Kong (type locality); Beibu Bay, off Hepu, Guangxi Province, China.
