Holotype: USNM 2762 (in very poor condition).

Type locality: Cabo San Lucas , Baja California Sur, México. Illustration: Anderson & Heemstra, 2012, fig. 28.

D: X, 15 (rarely X, 14 or XI, 14). A: III, 7 (rarely 8). P: 19 to 21 (usually 19 or 20). C: 15 (8 + 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 2. GR: 36 to 41 (10 to 12 + 25 to 30). LL: 46 to 57 (usually 48 to 54). CP: 23 to 28.

Distribution: widespread in the eastern Pacific from southern California and the Gulf of California to Peru, Cocos Island, and the Galápagos Islands ( Anderson & Heemstra, 2012:108).
