Holotype: BPBM 13907, 87.7 mm SL, male.
Type locality: outside reef east of Avaavaroa Pass, Rarotonga, Cook Islands, depth 33.5 meters. Illustrations: Kuiter, 2004:48, figs. A, B, & C (bottom of p.); Randall & McCosker, 1982:64 (figs. 6 & 7), 65 (fig. 8).
D: X, 17 or 18. A: III, 7 or 8 (usually 7). P: 17 to 20 (most frequently 18). C: 15 (8 + 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 3. GR: 8 to 11 + 24 to 28. LL: 44 to 49. CP: 23 to 26.
Distribution: western Pacific.
