Holotype: BMNH 1977.1.21.1, 69.7 mm SL, male.

Type locality: large cave on vertical drop-off, Baring, Olango Island, Cebu Strait, Philippines, depth 40 meters. Illustrations: Kuiter, 2004:60, figs. A–G; Lubbock & Allen, 1978:262, figs. 1 & 2, 264, pl.1.

D: X, 15 to 17 (usually 16). A: III, 7 or 8 (usually 7). P: 16 to 18 (usually 17). C: 15 (8 + 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 3. GR: 8 to 10 + 22 to 24. LL: 38 to 46 (most frequently 41 to 43). CP: 21 to 23 (usually 22).

Distribution: eastern Indian Ocean, western and central Pacific: Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and perhaps Johnston Atoll, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia.
