Holotype: MNHN 0000–0983, 110 mm SL.

Type locality: off Réunion, Mascarene Islands, southwestern Indian Ocean. Illustrations: Kuiter, 2004:92 (figs. A –C), 93 (figs. D & E); Randall & Heemstra, 2006, pl. I A & B.

D: X, 16 to 18. A: III, 7 or 8 (usually 7). P: 16 to18. C: 15 (8 + 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 2.

GR: 38 to 42 (11 to 13 + 27 to 29). LL: 39 to 43.

Distribution: Indo–west Pacific: South Africa, Madagascar, and Mascarenes east to Guam and New Guinea, north to Ogasawara Islands and southern Japan.
