Type locality: South America [ Atlantic coast].

D: X, 14 or 15 (usually 15). A: III, 7 or 8 (rarely 8). P: 17 to 20 (usually 18 or 19). C: 15 (8+ 7). V: 26 (10 + 16). S: 2. GR: 35 to 41 (8 to13 + 24 to 29). LL: 33 to 41 (usually 34 to 39). CP: 16 to 20 (usually 17 or 18).
Distribution: western Atlantic off Guianas and Brazil, central equatorial Atlantic
off St.Paul’s Rocks, and Caribbean Sea off Dominica, Venezuela, Bonaire, and Curaçao (based on a photograph possibly found in Baltimore Canyon off New Jersey—Anderson et al., 2017:82, 86).
