Lobothyreus breviceps Breddin, 1914
( Figs. 4–6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 )
Lobothyreus breviceps Breddin, 1914: 54 . Syntype (s): Peru; depository not given. Lobothyreus breviceps: Eger et al. 2015: 762 (distribution).
Type material examined. Lobothyreus breviceps Breddin, 1914. Lectotype (present designation): ♂, “ Peru \ Amazonas” [light blue, hw], “Lobothyreus \ ?? an \ nov. gen?” [Breddin’s hw], “coll. \ Breddin”. Mounted on card (removed for photographing, re-mounted on a new card, the original card pinned with the specimen), left antennal segment IV, segments II–III of left fore and hind tarsi, right fore tarsus lacking; deposited in SDEI ( Figs. 4–6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ).
Discussion. The species was described based on an unspecified number of specimens from “ Peru (Amazonas)”, with no indication of their sex. The specimen has apparently never been cited by subsequent authors and the depository of its type material has remained unknown so far. A single male belonging to the genus Lobothyreus Mayr, 1864 was found among unidentified scutellerids in SDEI. As it perfectly fits the original description of L. breviceps and it is from the type locality, there is no doubt that it is a syntype and it is therefore designated as the lectotype of L. breviceps.
The genus Lobothyreus Mayr, 1864 contains six described species of which currently four are considered as valid ( Kirkaldy 1909, Breddin 1914). A revision of the genus is currently in preparation by JEE in collaboration with A. Barcellos. Lobothyreus breviceps is therefore tentatively recognized as a valid species in the present paper. Current status. Lobothyreus breviceps Breddin, 1914, valid species.
