3.2.2. Cenostigma pinnatum (subsp. oblongifolium) var. savannarum (Britton & P. Wilson) García-Beltrán View in CoL , comb. nov.
≡ Poincianella savannarum Britton & P. Wilson View in CoL in Britton & Rose (1930: 335). ≡ Caesalpinia savannarum (Britton & P. Wilson) León View in CoL in León & Alain (1951: 283). ≡ Caesalpinia oblongifolia var. savannarum (Britton & P. Wilson) Borhidi & Muñiz (1975: 25) View in CoL . ≡ Caesalpinia pinnata var. savannarum (Britton & P. Wilson) Barreto & Beyra (1998: 183) View in CoL .
Lectotype (designated here):— CUBA. Sancti Spíritus, “savanna – Sti Spiritus – Sta Clara”, 20 July 1918, Bro. León & Bro. Roca 7835 (lectotype NY #22783 , isolectotype HAC-LS).
Diagnosis: — Cenostigma pinnatum var. savannarum is distinguished from C. pinnatum var. oblongifolium for its leaves with generally broader leaflets, 1.3-2.8 cm (vs. 0.8-1.8 cm), with 10-12 secondary veins on each side of its midvein (vs. 6-9), inflorescence axes 11.2-18 cm long (vs. 6.5-9 cm) and peduncles ca. 10 mm (vs. 3-7 mm).
Lectotypification: —In the protologue of Poincianella savannarum Britton , the herbarium where the type is found is not mentioned, so reference is made to a complete collection and not to a single specimen, so that all duplicates are considered syntypes ( Turland & al. 2018: Art. 40 Note 1). Barreto (2013) recognizes the material deposited in NY as a holotype of this name, but such designation cannot be considered effective lectotypification, since as of January 1, 2001, the phrase “designated here” or an equivalent is required ( Turland et al. 2018: Art. 7.11). For this reason, Poincianella savannarum Britton is lectotyped here with the material suggested by Barreto (2013).
Distribution: —Endemic to central Cuba: Cienfuegos (savanna north of Aguada de Pasajeros), Villa Clara (savannas of Cascajal) and Sancti Spíritus (savannas of Sancti Spíritus).
