CURRENT STATUS: Junior synonym of Tachina Meigen, 1803 . New Synonymy.

REMARKS: Larvaevora was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 38) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hendel (1908: 65) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Larvaevora as valid, which makes the name available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel (1908) included three nominal species: Musca grossa Linnaeus, 1758 [as “ M. grossa ... F.”], Musca fera Linnaeus, 1761 [as “ fera ... F.”], and Musca lurida Fabricius, 1781 . Coquillett (1910a: 557) selected Musca grossa Linnaeus, 1758 , which is the type species by subsequent designation. Musca grossa Linnaeus, 1758 is currently treated in Tachina Meigen, 1803 [teste Sabrosky (1999: 171)], which makes Larvaevora Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Tachina Meigen, 1803 , n. syn.
