30. Lampetia

[ Lampetia ] Meigen, 1800: 34.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; work suppressed for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]); treated under Merodon Meigen, 1803 [teste Peck (1988: 165)].

[ Lampetia ] Bezzi, 1907a: 56.

CURRENT STATUS: Unavailable name; criteria to make the name available not fulfilled in this work. REMARKS: Bezzi (1907a) included this name only in a list of Meigen 1800 names without stating their availability.

Lampetia Meigen in Hendel, 1908: 62 .

ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Syrphus equestris Fabricius, 1794 View in CoL ; Syrphus clavipes Fabricius, 1781 [as “... curvipes View in CoL F.”].

TYPE SPECIES: Syrphus clavipes Fabricius, 1781 , by subsequent designation ( Coquillett 1910a: 557).

CURRENT STATUS: Preoccupied by Lampetia Stephens, 1827 ; Lampetia Curtis, 1830 ; Lampetia Boie, 1837 ; Lampetia Chun, 1880 ; junior synonym of Merodon Meigen, 1803 . New Synonymy.

FAMILY: SYRPHIDAE .

REMARKS: Lampetia was originally proposed by Meigen (1800: 34) without included species and later made unavailable by the suppression of the entire work for the purposes of zoological nomenclature by action of the I.C.Z.N. (1963: 339 [Opinion 678]). Hendel (1908: 62) was the first after Meigen (1800) to give characters to differentiate the taxon (reproducing Meigen’s characters) and to treat Lampetia as valid, which makes it available from that work with Meigen as author. Hendel (1908) included two nominal species: Syrphus equestris Fabricius, 1794 ; Syrphus clavipes Fabricius, 1781 [as “... curvipes F.”]. Coquillett (1910a: 557) selected Syrphus clavipes Fabricius, 1781 , which is the type species by subsequent designation. Syrphus clavipes Fabricius, 1781 is currently treated in Merodon Meigen, 1803 [teste Peck (1988: 165)], which makes Lampetia Meigen in Hendel, 1908 a junior synonym of Merodon Meigen, 1803 , n. syn.
