Genus Scorpiurus Parent View in CoL
Scorpiurus Parent, 1933: 357 View in CoL . Type species: Scorpiurus aenescens Parent, 1933 (by monotypy).
Remarks. Scorpiurus is an endemic New Zealand genus in the dolichopodid subfamily Hydrophorinae . The genus was recently reviewed by Masunaga (2017), in which the type species, Scorpiurus aenescens Parent , and a second species, Scorpiurus thorpei Masunaga , were treated in detail. The paper also provided a generic diagnosis which is not repeated here. In this paper we describe a third New Zealand species from the Otago district of South Island. It has strikingly modified tarsomeres on legs I and II.
