Marionina rubens Rota, 1995 View in CoL
arionina rubens R ota, 1995: 223–225, gure 16A–F.
M aterial ex amined. H ol ot ype, M CZR OLIG OCH AETA 0044, Italy, Tuscany, near Castelnuovo di Val di Cecina (Pisa) , ditch with Castanea sativa litter at roadside,. R ota leg., 10 October 1993. Pa r at ype, M CZR OLIG OCH AETA 0045, and two specimens in Rota’s collection, all from type locality.
Remarks. The main diagnostic features of this species are the chaetal formula, the coated spermathecal ampullae, and the red tinge caused by the blood and chloragogen tissue. Note that in the original description (Rota, 1994, 1995) the chaetal formula was mistakenly copied out as 2,(3),0-0,2: 2,3-2, whereas the correct writing of the formula is (2),3,0-0,2: 2,3-2, as there most frequently are three chaetae rarely two) per anterior lateral bundle. For the purpose of comparison with the Chinese M. righiana sp. n., the original material was re-examined and revealed additional distinctive characteristics. The clitellar gland cells are small (7–10 by
– 12 m m) and arranged in numerous transverse rows. The male pores open in the posterior half of XII, with low but distinct lateral lips. The last four septa of the caudal region are remarkably thickened; the latter character is unprecedented in
arionina .
