Diagnosis. Body length: 7.4− 10 mm (female); 9−12 mm (male).

Body generally black with pale areas in female whitish to yellowish white ( Figs 5A, B View FIGURE 5 , 6A View FIGURE 6 ), while clear yellow in male ( Figs 5C, D View FIGURE 5 , 6B View FIGURE 6 ); mesoscutum black, sometimes with two thin yellow streaks, T 1 ferruginous in female ( Figs 5A View FIGURE 5 , 6A View FIGURE 6 ), with large preapical whitish marking laterally; malar space indistinct ( Fig. 5B, D View FIGURE 5 ); clypeal moustache in male long, meeting medially ( Fig. 5D View FIGURE 5 ); mesoscutum sparsely punctate, smooth and shiny between punctures ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ); upper mesopleuron smooth, lower mesopleuron densely punctate ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ); propodeal enclosure smooth and shiny, with rugose median sulcus ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ); gastral T 3 black in both sexes, with microsculpture between superficial punctures that make it dull in appearance ( Fig. 5A, C View FIGURE 5 ). Previous Egyptian Records: Ezbet El Nakhl, Maadi ( Storey, 1916 as P. coarctatus and as P. niloticus ), very common species, found everywhere in Egypt ( Honoré 1942 as P. coarctatus and as P. niloticus ; Gadallah 1996), Aswan, Luxor ( Pulawski 1964; Roche 2007), Gabal Uweinat ( Krombein 1974), Fayed, Fayoum, El Gabal El Asfar, Giza, Helwan, Kabrit, Kerdasa, Kom Oshiem, Kom Ombo, Manqabad, Wadi Degla, Wadi El Natroun, Wadi Er Rayan, Za’farana Road, Sinai (Hammamat Faraoun, Rafah, Um Bugma) ( Roche 2007), Hurghada, Wadi Degla, Wadi Khoshb (South Sinai) (present study).

Extralimital distribution: Algeria, Chad, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Israel-Palestine, Italy, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Libya, Morocco, Mali, Mauritania, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Yemen.

Remarks. Characters of Egyptian specimens agree with de Beaumont’s key (1949: 180, couplet 10). Our males and females also agree with the Tunisian specimens (see Ben Khedher et al. 2021, figs 1 (D, E), 3(D, E)), and with Guichard’s key (1994: 208, couplet 7).
