Lysilla Malmgren, 1866 View in CoL
Malmgren, 1866:392–393.— Hutchings & Glasby, 1986:325.— Hartmann-Schröder, 1996:523.
Type species: Lysilla loveni Malmgren, 1866 , by monotypy.
Diagnosis: Tentacular membrane expanded, trilobed, wide; eyespots and lateral lappets absent; small midventral shields; six to 12 thoracic segments; notopodia from segment 3, notochaetae smooth, hirsute or pinnate; abdominal notopodia and notochaetae absent; thoracic and abdominal neuropodia and neurochaeta absent.
Remarks: Only one species has been described for the Western Atlantic Ocean, Lysilla alba Webster, 1879 , from Virginia. Londoño-Mesa and Carrera-Parra (2005) reported an undescribed species, Lysilla sp. from the Mexican Caribbean ; nevertheless, this species was not named because it was only one specimen in poor condition. Herein, I report an additional specimen in better condition; it is named as Lysilla caribe sp. nov. being the only species described from the Grand Caribbean region.
