Material examined. Holotype ♂ Madagascar / Périnet / Res. Nat. / 21 X 95 Heiss // Holotype ♂ / Bergrothista / maculipennis n. sp. / des. Diagnosis. Smaller and more slender than villiersi ; the antennae much shorter; the membrane mottled with dark brown spots, deltg II–VII generally darke,r and venter dark brown.
Description. Macropterous male; body structures basically as of villiersi but flat scales are also present on deltg II–VII.
Head: Slightly wider than long (13.5/11); genae shorter than clypeus; antenniferous lobes as long as clypeus; antennae twice as long as width of head, length of antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 6.5/4/10.5/6.
Pronotum: About twice as wide as long (24/12.5); outline and structure as of villiersi .
Scutellum: Triangular wider than long (16/10), basal and lateral margins and median ridge beset with flat lighter scales.
Abdomen: Lateral margins only slightly dilated posteriorly; pe-angles V–VII angularly protruding; pygophore wider than long with dorsal conical ridge; paratergites VIII triangular as long as pygophore.
Hemelytra: Membrane whitish with basal dark brown spot and mottled brown spots elsewhere, covering tergal disk.
Venter: Uniformly brown; metathoracic scent gland canal and stridulatory file on vltg III developed, spiracles II – IV ventral far from lateral margin, V sublateral and hardly visible (in ♂), VI – VIII lateral and visible from above .
Female: Habitus and body structures as in male, paratergites VIII triangular longer than deltg VII.
Measurements. Holotype ♂: Length 3.7mm; width of abdomen across tergite V 30. ♀ from env. Imaha: Length 4.0 mm; head length / width 13/13.5; pronotum l/w 14/25; scutellum l/w 12/18; length of antennal segments I/II/III/IV = 7/4.5/12.5/13, ratio length of antennae / width of head 2.25; width of abdomen across tergite V 32.
Etymology. Refers to the brownish mottled membrane of this species.
Distribution. So far only recorded from Périnet (Andasibe) at the center and the Anosyenne mountain range in the south of Madagascar.
