Abacarus rotundus sp. nov. ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 )
Female: Body fusiform, 157 long, shield 39 long, 51 wide, shield lobe present, shield design without median line, with many short lines, admedian lines complete, connected at base, semi-circular like at base, 3 submedian lines converging to apex; scapular tubercles set at rear shield margin, setae (sc) 37 long, directed posterior, Dt-Dt 23 apart; leg segments normal, tibial setae (sc) set at half, 6 long; fore coxal area with lines, 1 st coxal setae (1 b) 7 long, Ct 1 -Ct 1 7 apart, 2 nd coxal setae (1 a) 14 long, Ct 2 -Ct 2 7 apart, 3 rd coxal setae (2 a) 22 long, Ct 3 -Ct 3 22 apart, Ct 1 \Ct 2 14, Ct 1 -Ct 2 12, Ct 2 \Ct 3 16, Ct 2 -Ct 3 9; claw ending as knob; fore empodium swollen, 7 -rayed.
Opisthosoma: dorsum with median ridge ending before submedian ridges, dorsal annuli with about 51 microtuberculate rings, 1 st 3 dorsal annuli 7 long, ventral annuli with about 72 microtuberculate rings; lateral setae (c 2) 15 long, Lt-Lt 39 apart, Lt\Vt 1 41, Lt-Vt 1 24; 1 st ventral setae (d) 16 long, Vt 1 -Vt 1 27 apart, Vt 1 \Vt 2 39, Vt 1 -Vt 2 32; 2 nd ventral setae (e) 2 long, Vt 2 -Vt 2 19 apart, Vt 2 \Vt 3 46, Vt 2 -Vt 3 41; 3 rd ventral setae (f) 22 long, Vt 3 -Vt 3 19 apart; accessory setae (h 1) present.
Epigynium: 23 wide, 16 long, with about 14 longitudinal ridges, genital setae (3 a) 14 long, Gt-Gt 14 apart.
Male: not seen.
Type data: Holotype Ψ, Taipei: Yangmingshan (670m; N 25 ° 10´E 121 ° 34´), 18 -Aug.- 1999, Huang & Wang; ex Smilax china L. (Smilaceae). (deposited at NMNS). Paratypes, 3 Ψ, data same as for holotype.
Relation to host: A vagrant on the lower leaf surface. No apparent damage was observed.
Remarks: This new species is close to A. yunensis Lin et Kuang, 2001 by the shield design with admedian lines with forked lines directed rear. This new species differs from A. yunensis by the following characters: the shield design with admedian lines connected at base, semi-circular at base, and dorsal opisthosomal ring with microtubercles.
Etymology: This new name means “round” in reference to the semi-circular shaped admedian lines at the base.
