Type species: Ichneumenoptera auripes Hampson [1893], original designation.
The genus Ichneumenoptera are currently known from Vietnam, Myanmar [ Burma] and eastern Australia ( Pühringer & Kallies 2014). The genus Ichneumenoptera is closely related to Aegerina and Synanthedon according to Gorbunov & Arita (1995a). Species of Ichneumenoptera are characterized by the following characters: Body elongate, approximately 7X head width; forewing Cu veins fused or nearly fused proximally, with stalk of veins R4 and R5 shorter than other genera of the tribe. The morphology of adult moths remind of wasps in Ichneumonidae (Hymenoptera) .
