The genus Synanthedon has been recorded from all zoogeographical regions; however, some tropical species may belong to other genera ( Bradley 1968). It is morphologically very diverse, including a number of species groups. Many of which may be poorly defined, and modern revision of the genus is still lacking. Species of Synanthedon are characterized by the morphology of the male genitalia (length of tegumen-uncus 4.0−4.9X saccus; scopula short, about 3/ 4X length of tegumen-uncus), famale genitalia (antrum short, funnel shaped) as well as wing venation (crossvein of hindwing shifted distally at about 3/5 of anterior transparent areas).
