Neumania (Neumania) silvestris n. sp.
( Figures 40–44 View FIGURES 40 – 44 )
Material examined. Holotype male, Unnamed creek in UNCEN-forest, Abepura, Papua Province, New Guinea, Indonesia, 2° 34.925 S 140° 39.173 E, alt. 97 m asl, 27-x- 20111 (mounted, RMNH). Paratypes: five females, same data as holotype (one female mounted, RMNH).
Diagnosis. Genital field with six pairs of acetabula. PIV anteroventrally with a small tubercle and a long anterodorsal seta, pre- and postgenital sclerite of female very large.
Description. Male: Idiosoma soft 478 long and 397 wide. Apodemes of Cx-I long, extending to middle of Cx- IV. Posterior margin of fourth coxae with a small area of secondary sclerotization and short apodemes. Genital field with six pairs of acetabula. Lengths of PI-PV: 28, 80, 46, 76, 20; PII with a long seta, PIV anteroventrally with a small tubercle, PIV with a long dorsodistal seta, extending beyond tip of PV. Lengths of I-leg-4–6: 160, 162, 124. First and second legs with long fluted or grooved setae. Lengths of IV-leg-4–6: 136, 152, 148. III- and IV-leg-4 and 5 with three swimming setae, in addition, III-leg-4 with four additional long, stiff swimming setae.
Female: Idiosoma soft, 567 (510–548) long and 437 (397–421) wide. Apodemes of Cx-I long, extending to middle of Cx-IV. Posterior margin of Cx-IV with a small area of secondary sclerotization and short apodemes (lost due to mounting in the illustrated female). Pre- and postgenital sclerites very large, 56 and 50 in width, respectively. Genital plates with six acetabula. Lengths of PI-PV: 22, 80, 34, 80, 34; palp as in male. Lengths of Ileg-4–6: 180, 180, 124. First and second legs with long fluted or grooved setae. Lengths of IV-leg-4–6: 126, 156, 148. Swimming setae as in male.
Etymology. Named for its occurrence in a forest.
Remarks. The new species is close to N. nodosa , which also has a long dorsodistal seta on PIV. However, N. nodosa has more acetabula (15–20 pairs), two small ventral tubercles on PIV, and more slender pre-and postgenital sclerites. Neumania ambigua Piersig, 1906 is similar in the shape of the genital field (including the number of acetabula), but has PIV with a short anterodorsal seta, and slender pre-and postgenital sclerites.
