Koenikea (Notomideopsis) sentaniensis n. sp.

( Figures 50–55 View FIGURES 50 – 55 )

Material examined. Holotype male, Lake Sentani, Papua province, New Guinea, Indonesia, 2° 33.576 S 140° 25.438 E, alt, 84 m asl, 28-x-2011 (RMNH).

Diagnosis. Glandularia D3 and D4 close to each other and to margin of dorsal shield Genital field located near posterior idiosoma margin, with numerous acetabula (approximately 20–25 pairs). Coxoglandularia 2 halfway between posterior margin of fourth coxal plates and genital field. PIV relatively short, tubercle on ventral margin of PIV distanced from anterior margin of segment.

Description. Male: Idiosoma 599 long and 555 wide. Dorsal and ventral shields present. Dorsal shield 559 long and 494 wide; glandularia D3 and D4 (for numbering see Smit 2004) close to each other and to margin of dorsal shield. Tips of Cx-I rounded, not extending beyond anterior idiosoma margin. Posterior apodemes of anterior coxae extending beyond suture line of third and fourth coxal plates. Cxgl-2 halfway between posterior margin of fourth coxal plates and genital field. Gonopore 70 long. Genital field located near posterior idiosoma margin, with numerous acetabula (approximately 20–25 pairs, but difficult to ascertain), surrounding a pair of enlarged glandularia. Lengths of PI-PV: 22, 74, 40, 76, 38. PIV relatively short, tubercle on ventral margin large and close to distal end margin, with a short seta; anterodorsally a long, thin seta, ventral margin with in proximal ventral half a moderately long seta. Lengths of I-leg-4–6: 168, 156, 162; grooved setae long. Lengths of IV-leg-4– 6: 158, 184, 174. Swimming setae numbers: IV-leg-4 and-5 three, III-leg-5 three and III-leg-4 one (but some swimming setae might have been lost).

Female: Idiosoma 721 long and 664 wide; dorsal shield 667 long and 603 wide. Configuration of dorsal glandularia as in male. Coxal field as in male. Coxoglandularia 2 halfway posterior margin of fourth coxal plates and genital field. Due to posterior location of genital field in slide, measurement and counting number of acetabula not possible. Lengths of PI-PV: 22, 82, 52, 89, 34. Palp as in male, but tubercle of ventral margin of PIV more projecting. Lengths of I-leg-4–6: 179, 156, 138. Lengths of IV-leg-4–6: 168, 200, 184. Swimming setae numbers: II-leg-5 and -5 one, III-leg-4–5 and IV-leg-4–5 three, IV-leg-3 one.

Etymology. Named after Lake Sentani.

Remarks. The new species is in many characters (acetabula surrounding enlarged glandularia, position of Cxgl-2, configuration of dorsal glandularia) similar to K. timmsi K.O. Viets, 1977 , but differs noticeably in the palp. The tubercle on the ventral margin of PIV is large and well distanced from the anterior margin of the segment. In K. timmsi this tubercle is small and located near anterior margin. Moreover, PIV is shorter, measuring 76 versus 93–97 in K. timmsi (data of Cook 1986). A palp similar in shape is with the tubercle of PIV close to the anterior margin of this segment, is found in Koenikea distans K.O. Viets, 1980 , a species differing in Coxoglandularia 2 located close to the genital field (see Smit 2004), D3 and D4, and the pair of D6 more distanced from each other, and a by far lower number of acetabula. Wiles (1997b) reported K. timmsi from Lake Sentani, but it is likely that his specimens must be assigned to the new species.
