Osbornellus maesi Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.

( Figs. 35a–35e)

Description. Length: 4.4–5.3 mm. Member of the O. maesi group ( Fig. 1c). Vertex angulate, median length about equal to distance between eyes at posterior margin. General color yellowish. Face pale yellow. Vertex with wide pale yellow band along anterior margin between ocelli, wide orange band across vertex between anterior portions of eyes; wide pale yellow band on posterior margin of vertex. Pronotum yellow-orange, posteriorly pale yellow. Scutellum anteriorly orange, posterior half pale yellow. Anterior wing transparent, yellow, with several whitish patches and a few elongate brown marks; veins brown, usually with brown dots at the end of the costal veinlets, claval veins and claval suture; apical cell with brown marks.

Male genitalia: Pygofer about twice as long as greatest width, moderately projected, apex widey rounded; macrosetae long, dispersed along apical half of pygofer ( Fig. 35a). Valve ovate, margins rounded, anterior half slightly curved. Plates long, apex rounded and setae plumose ( Fig. 35b). Style with apophysis short, curved, truncate, apex sharp ventrally ( Fig. 35c). In ventral view aedeagus with wide straight-sided base, shaft straight, narrow, apex pointed, shorter than ventral processes ( Fig. 35d). Ventral processes arising one-third of the distance from base of aedeagus, long, straight, slightly divergent at base, less divergent toward pointed apices. In lateral view shaft uniformly wide, curved in the middle, apex rounded, shorter than ventral processes; dorsal projection slender, curved slightly caudad, apex truncate. Gonopore apical. Ventral processes separated from shaft, curved slightly ventrad, apices pointed ( Fig. 35e).

Diagnosis. Very similar externally to O. lewisi and O. afflexus , but in ventral view the ventral processes of O. maesi are long, straight, slightly separated toward apex, but not divergent; in lateral view the ventral processes are straight and close to the shaft. In O. lewisi and O. afflexus , in ventral view, the ventral processes are straight and in lateral view the shaft is separated from the ventral processes.

Distribution. Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama; 0– 200 m.

Etymology. This species is named for Jean Michell Maes, in appreciation for his loan of specimens and in recognition of his unfaltering entomological work in Nicaragua.
