Osbornellus corcovadiensis Domínguez & Godoy View in CoL , sp. nov.
( Figs. 50a–50e)
Description. Length: 3.8–4.6 mm. Member of the O. rarus group ( Fig. 12). Similar to O. rarus but with the following differences. Vertex slightly angulate, median length about equal to distance between eyes at posterior margin. Anterior margin cream colored, with irregular brown line extending to ocelli, posteriorly with pale triangular mark partly surrounded by brown; with rounded brown mark behind each ocellus; wide transverse brown line followed by orange with two lateral brown marks, with two cream colored marks near the median line ( Fig. 12). Pronotum mottled brown with a small orange mark in the center. Scutellum mottled yellowish orange and cream. Anterior wing veins brown, usually with brown dots at the ends of the costal veinlets, claval veins and claval suture; apical cells with brown marks.
Male genitalia: Pygofer about twice as long as width, moderately projected posteriorly, apex very widey rounded; macrosetae long, dispersed along apical half of pygofer ( Fig.50a). Valve margins rounded, ventral margins pointed, anterior part curved medially. Plates long, apex pointed, setae plumose and dispersed ( Fig. 50b). Style with apophysis long, straight, apex truncate annd curved ventrally ( Fig. 50c). Aedeagus in ventral view with base wide and straight, lateral margins curved and tapered; shaft slender, straight, apex pointed, slightly longer than ventral processes; dorsal projection expanded laterally, end pointed ( Fig. 50d). Ventral processes arising close to base of aedeagus, very close to one another near base then separating, crossing in the apical fourth, separating at the apices; narrow with pointed apices. In lateral view shaft curved ventrad, slightly longer than ventral processes, apex rounded; dorsal projection slender, tapered, apex rounded, slightly curved dorsad at tip. Gonopore subapical. Ventral processes close, slender, curved ventrad, apices pointed ( Fig. 50e).
Diagnosis. Very similar to O. rarus , but in ventral view the aedeagal processes of O. corcovadiensis are slender, with the apices crossing one another, whereas in O. rarus the processes do not cross.
Distribution. Known only from Costa Rica; 0– 70 m.
