Kimulodes maldesi View in CoL nov. sp.

Diagnosis. General coloration brown ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Antennae of male with a tuft of hairs on basal flagellomeres. Antennae of male sinuate basally, not arched at a right angle. Apex of mesoprescutum pointed and raised ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 12 ). Ectoprocts of male rounded.

Description. Head. Face yellow with yellow-white hairs ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Genae yellow, hairless. Postorbital sclerites and occiput yellowish-white, hairless. Antennae sinuate basally, but not arched at a right angle, shorter than distance between base of forewing and pterostigma. Scape yellow, broader than long, with yellowish hairs. Pedicel light brown. First six flagellomeres mainly brown with the dorsal area of implantation of hairs piceous. Remaining flagellomeres piceous. Size of the tufts of hairs increasing progressively from flagellomeres one to five, decreasing rapidly from flagellomeres 12 to 13. Flagellomere 14 with only two long hairs. Flagellomeres 17 to 23 with small tuft of short hairs. Flagellomere 15 straight. Club pear-shaped. Thorax. Brown dorsally and ventrally. Sides brown with a yellow band along lower part. Side of mesoprescutum and mesoscutum with tuft of hairs ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 12 ). Posterior margin of mesoprescutum pointed and raised ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 6 – 12 ). Legs. Yellow. Femur with dorsal long white hairs and ventral black erect setae. Tibia with ventral black erect setae. Tarsomeres piceous apically and ventrally. Wings. Forewing 3: 29 mm, hind wing 3: 25 mm. Membrane suffused with light brown. Longitudinal veins yellowish. Costal area of forewing progressively narrowed at base of wing. Anal angle of forewing obtuse. Pterostigma brown with three crossveins. No tuft of hairs at base of the forewing of male. Abdomen. Light brown. Bordered with brown along lateral margin of tergites and sternites ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 6 – 12 ). Sternites yellowish with a piceous median line. Male. Ectoproct rounded. External edge of parameres rounded ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 6 – 12 ). Gonarcus pointed dorsally, at the junction with the parameres ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 6 – 12 ). Pulvini short. Pelta present. Female. Unknown.

Material examined. Holotype 3 TOGO Kolokopé [07°47’N 01°17’E] 25.X.1990 J.-M. Maldès leg. (Coll. CIRAD-CBGP).

Distribution. Known only from the type locality in Togo. This is the first record of the genus Kimulodes in West Africa.

Etymology. Species dedicated to my colleague Jean-Michel Maldès who collected the holotype.

Additional data on Kimulodes angulicornis Tjeder & Hansson, 1992

A male and a female ( Figs. 4, 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ) in the collection of the MNHN, Paris, were collected in the Central African Republic in the region of Bouar [05°55’N, 15°35’E], which is a new locality record. Tjeder and Hansson (1992) mentioned only one locality in the Central African Republic, Fort Crampel [07°00’N, 19°11’E]. The species is also known from Uganda and Zaire ( Tjeder & Hansson, 1992).
