Diagnosis (emended from Lorenzen 1978; Fonseca & Bezerra 2014): Sphaerolaimidae . Wall of buccal cavity consists of six anterior and three posterior, circularly arranged elements. Anterior-most part of inner pharyngeal wall transformed into six plates. Longitudinal ribs of lip region of all juvenile stages correspond to a uniform pattern that differs sharply from that of adults. Eight groups of subcephalic setae, corresponding to those of Sphaerolaiminae , occur in all four juvenile stages and in adults. Sexual dimorphism in size of amphids.
