Parabaliothrips takahashii Priesner View in CoL
Parabaliothrips takahashii Priesner, 1935: 125 View in CoL .
The genus Parabaliothrips View in CoL was described from Taiwan with type species P. takahashii View in CoL . It comprises six species and was recorded previously from New Zealand, Australia and south east Asia, with coluckus View in CoL from Nepal, grandiceps and takahashii View in CoL from Taiwan, newmani and setifer from Australia, and montanus from Australia and New Zealand. P. takahashii View in CoL can be distinguished from coluckus View in CoL by the length of ocellar setae I being less than two times the median width of antennal segment III, whereas these setae are more than three times the median width of antennal segment III in P. coluckus View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Body dark brown including all femora. Fore tibia yellow with brown shade in basal 2/3, mid and hind tibiae brown with extreme apex yellow, all tarsi yellow. Antennal segments I–II brown, III yellow with basal 1/3 brown, IV–VI yellow, VII–VIII yellow with brown shade ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Tergite VIII with complete but sparse comb of microtrichia across posterior margin; ocellar setae III arising on tangent joining posterior margins of posterior ocelli. Ocellar setae I less than 2.0 times as long as median width of antennal segment III.
