Helionothrips aino Ishida,1931 View in CoL , 34–36.
The genus Helionothrips View in CoL comprises 27 species worldwide (ThripsWiki 2015), of which 4 species are known from India ( Bhatti 1990). H. aino View in CoL is the fifth species recorded from India. This species can be distinguished from H. ananthakrishnani Wilson View in CoL by the shorter and smaller constricted apex of antennal segment IV in comparison to the apex of antennal segment III.
Diagnosis. Female macroptera. Body blackish brown ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Antennal segments I–V and basal 2/3 of VI yellow, apical 1/3 of VI and VII–VIII light brown. All femora brown, all tibiae brown with yellow apex, tarsi yellow. Fore wing brown at base with sub-basal white band, brown at fork of vein and at distal end, distal half of wing pale brown.
Material studied. INDIA, Himachal Pradesh, Mandi, 4 females, 5 males on Colocasia leaves, 17.x.2013, (Reg. No. 6508/H17 to 6516/H17), Tyagi & Kumar. Ten females and 15 males are not mounted and preserved at - 20o C for molecular work.
