Type Locality. Suriname, Sipaliwini District, Tafelberg Summit nr Augustus Creek Camp, pond on trail into Arrowhead Basin , 3°55.600 0 N, 56°11.300 0 W .

Diagnosis. This species differs from others in the group by the shape of the male genitalia. The median lobe is elongate and evenly and strongly curved apically in lateral aspect ( Fig. 6 View Figs ). In ventral aspect, the median lobe is moderately deeply bifid with each ramus apically expanded and truncate ( Fig. 7 View Figs ). Specimens are evenly orange on the dorsum of the head and pronotum and evenly red-brown on the elytra. The shape of the male genitalia and the dorsal coloration are not particularly similar to any other member of the D. striola species-group.

Description. Measurements: TL = 1.4–1.5 mm, GW = 1.0 mm, PW = 0.7–.08 mm, HW = 0.5 mm, EW = 0.2–0.3 mm, TL/GW = 1.4–1.6, HW/EW = 1.8–1.9. Coloration: Head and pronotum orange,

posterior margin of pronotum medially narrowly brown. Elytron evenly red-brown; surface shiny but not iridescent. Head appendages, legs, and ventral surfaces yellow to yellow-orange. Sculpture and structure: Head broad, short; anterior margin of clypeus finely margined with continuous narrow bead; surface of head shiny, very finely and sparsely punctate; eyes large (HW/EW = 1.8–1.9); antennae short, antennomeres III–X short, moderately broad, antennomere XI elongate, apically pointed. Pronotum short, broad, laterally distinctly curved with continuous narrow bead; surface shiny, very finely and sparsely punctate, without basal striae. Elytron broad, laterally broadly curved; surface shiny, very finely and sparsely punctate, without basal stria but with fine sutural stria. Prosternum short, longitudinally compressed; prosternal process short, broad, without medial ventral tubercle, apically broadly triangular. Metaventrite broad and evenly smoothly convex medially, surface shiny, impunctate; metaventrite wings extremely slender. Metacoxa with medial portion short, less than half length of metaventrite medially, metacoxal lines subsinuate, divergent anteriorly; lateral portion of metacoxa very large, anteriorly strongly expanded; surface shiny, impunctate. Metatrochanter very large, subequal to length of ventral margin of metafemur; legs otherwise not noticeably modified. Abdominal surface shiny and smooth, very finely and sparsely punctate. Male genitalia: Median lobe in lateral aspect slender, somewhat evenly convergent to slender apex that is abruptly and strongly curved dorsad ( Fig. 6 View Figs ); in ventral aspect, broad medially, lateral margins strongly sinuate, apically broad, moderately deeply bifid, each ramus broad, apically broadly subtruncate ( Fig. 7 View Figs ). Lateral lobe in lateral aspect moderately broad throughout much of length, lateral margins somewhat undulate, apically abruptly slender, strongly curved or bent dorsad ( Fig. 8 View Figs ); in ventral aspect, elongate slender, apically slightly expanded, moderately curved mediad ( Fig. 7 View Figs ).

Etymology. This species is named clotho (spinner) after one of the three Greek fates.

Distribution. Desmopachria clotho is known only from one locality in Sipaliwini District in Suriname ( Fig. 25 View Figs ).

Habitat. The type series was collected from a “pond.”
