Parangara campa Rehn 1945

This is the only species of its genus. A single pair of holo- and allotype are known from the eastern slope of the Andes in central Peru, Junín Province, valleys of Río Piches and and Río Perené, 2000–3000 m. The katydids are very small (body length 11–12 mm) and long-legged. The tegmina are slightly shorter than the pronotum in the male, and less than half as long as the pronotum in the female. The pronotum has a very distinctive shape, being strongly saddle-shaped in lateral profile, with anterior and particularly posterior margin upcurved. The abdominal tergites sport a paired series of small pointed dorsal projections. Fore and middle femora have some dorsal spines. The female’s ovipositor is fairly slender, uniformly upcurved, and pointed. Since its description this remarkable species apparently was not mentioned in literature again.
