( Figures 62 View FIGURE 62 and 71D View FIGURE 71 )

Xenorthrius wallacei Gorham 1893: 576 .

Specimens examined: Holotype: Borneo: SAR.; Wallace; 58; Gorh. Type; Xenorthrius wallacei, Gorh. ; Museum Paris, Coll. Gorham, 1914 ( MNHN).

Others: Sumatra: Dohrn, Sumatra, Soekaranda; 139; Xenorthrius spec. ; Mus. Zool. Polonicum, Warszawa, 12/45 (♂, ZMPA) .

Unfortunately the reproductive organs as well as the pygidium and ventrite 6 have been dissected from the holotype and have not been provided with the specimen.

Measurements: (2 specimens measured) Average total length: 8.2mm, range: 7.1–8.8mm, average elytral length: 5.6mm, average elytral width: 2.3mm, average pronotal length: 2.0mm, average pronotal width: 1.7mm, average head width: 1.7mm.

Head: Dark red-brown, cranium vested with long setae, punctation very fine, nearly smooth; anterior part of clypeus narrow, posterior part dark red-brown, anterior margin strongly concave, posterior margin convex, with large punctation and a few long setae laterally, smooth centrally; ventral part red-brown, smooth except wrinkles behind the eyes; antennae red-brown, all antennomeres apically lighter, antennomeres gradually decreasing in length from A3 towards A8, A9 to A11 forming a distinct club, antennae reaching middle of pronotum when laid back; gular sutures diverging apically, gular process narrow, line shaped.

Thorax: Average pronotal length:width ratio 1.1:1; pronotum dark red-brown, anterior margin can be somewhat lighter, vested with yellowish setae, pronotal arch with very fine and sparse punctation, pronotum proper with distinct punctation, interstices mostly smaller than one diameter of punctures, punctation sometimes merging to longitudinal wrinkles; prosternum red-brown, smooth; mesosternum red-brown, margins darkened, mesosternum centrally circularly lowered and densely vested with woolly setae; metasternum red-brown with microsculpture, vested with fine setae, punctation sparse and fine; transverse sulcus on anterior part of mesosternum and mesepisternum relatively distinct on mesosternum, anterior metasternal process with two strongly sclerotized, ventrally projecting, edges; scutellum circular, dark redbrown.

Elytra: Average length:width ratio 2.4:1; predominantly colored dark red-brown, with a large yellow spot centrally, the specimen from Java with a larger spot and with two small dark-brown maculae in it, a narrow undulating yellow fascia right before apex or apex entirely yellow, subcutaneous structures visible through yellow areas, vested with short decumbent and longer erect setae, punctation relatively large, striae 1 and 2 obsolete with beginning of yellow fascia, striae 3 reaching middle of postmedian fascia, striae 4 to 8 entirely present, striae 9 and 10 with weak punctation, punctures relatively large, interstices between and within striae smaller than one diameter of punctures, punctation rasp-like in basal third; strongly carinated along striae 3 to 7.

Legs: Dark red-brown, coxa, trochanter and proximal part of femora yellow, tarsal pulvilli pale; metatibiae more or less straight, anterior and posterior face of each tibia carinate, carination red-brown, distinct, especially on metatibia.

Abdomen: Ventrites red-brown, distinctly but sparsely punctured, interstices about one diameter of punctures; male pygidium broadest in basal third, lateral margins converging in apical two thirds, anterior margin flattened; male ventrite 6 with U-shaped emargination. Male genitalia ( Fig. 62 View FIGURE 62 ): Lateral margins of tegmen slightly concave; phallic plates broad except basal fifth where they are narrow; spicular fork dividing into two branches after one fifth of length.

Distribution: Borneo ( Sarawak), Sumatra.

Seasonal occurrence: No collecting dates available.
