For a full synonymy, description and distribution of this species see Jeffrey & Chen (1984), Chen (1999), Nordenstam (2006), and Chen et al. (2011).

Notes: — We have been unable to trace the type collection of Jacobaea nudicaulis from BM. Jeffrey & Chen (1984) stated that the holotype of this species was kept in BM, but they also did not see it. Indeed, Don (1825) cited only the Hamilton material in the protologue of Senecio nudicaulis . Nordenstam (2006) did not mention the type material of S. nudicaulis when transferring this species to Jacobaea . He may have regarded it as a species name with well-established identity.
