REVIEWED BY: R. S. Hoffmann (RSH).
COMMENT: Various authors have included Amnwtragus and Ovis ; see Ansell, 1972; Part 15:70; Van Gelder, 1977, Am. Mus. Novit., 2635:1-25. Probably should also include Pseudois (RGVG) . However, most authors have not followed this arrangement; see Corbet and Hill, 1980; Hall, 1981; Gromov and Baranova, 1981; Gray and Simpson, 1980. There is no consensus concerning the number of species to be recognized in this genus; some would recognize only two ( hircus , falconeri ); see Haltenorth, 1963, while others would recognize up to nine; Corbet, 1978:213-217, is followed here (RSH).
