TYPE LOCALITY: India, Kashmir, Astor

DISTRIBUTION: Uzbekistan, Tadzhikistan (U.S.S. R.) and N.E. Iran to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and N. W. India; Oman.

COMMENT: Hybridizes with aries (= orientalis ) in C. Iran; see Valdez et al., 1978, Evol., 32:56-72, and Nadler et al., 1971, Cytogenetics, 10: 137- 152.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix I and U.S. ESA - Endangered.
