TYPE LOCALITY: South Africa, Transvaal, Cashan Range, near Pretoria .

DISTRIBUTION: S.E. Kenya to N. South Africa, west to N. Botswana, also Angola, between Cuanza and Loando Rivers.

COMMENT: Includes variani; see Ansell 1972, Part 15:47.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix I and U.S. ESA - Endangered as H. n. variani subspecies only.
