TYPE LOCALITY: Canada, Manitoba, between Seal and Churchill rivers .

DISTRIBUTION: Formerly Point Barrow, Alaska ( U.S.A.) east to N. E. Greenland, south to N. E. Manitoba ( Canada). Range now much reduced. Introduced to Seward Peninsula and Nunivak IsL, Alaska ( U.S.A.); Taimyr Peninsula and Wrangel Isl. (U.S.S.R.); Norway.
