TYPE LOCALITY: South Africa, Cape Prov., Caffer Kayls River , between Mussel Bay and Swellendam .

DISTRIBUTION: Formerly from S.W. Cape Prov. to E. Transvaal ( South Africa); now only in captivity.

COMMENT: Includes phillipsi ; see Ansell, 1972, Part 15: 55.

PROTECTED STATUS: CITES - Appendix II and U.S. ESA - Endangered as D. d. dorcas subspecies only.
