Haplothrips flavicinctus (Karny) View in CoL

Hindsiana flavicinctus Karny, 1910, p. 52 View in CoL .

This species is widespread in southern Europe and the Mediterranean ( Priesner 1964). The only other bicoloured Haplothripini known from Iran is Plicothrips apicalis View in CoL , a species that is also associated with Poaceae View in CoL .

Diagnosis

Head and abdomen dark brown, thorax and legs yellow; antennal segments I–II and VIII dark, the remaining segments yellow. Head with postocular setae rather long, capitate extending beyond posterior margin of eyes; antennal segment III with one sensorium (cf. Figure 28 View Figures 22–31 ). Pronotal anteroangular setae well developed, anteromarginals as long as discal setae. Fore tarsi apparently without tooth (cf. Figures 4, 5, 7 View Figures 1–9 ). Forewing with four to six duplicated cilia (cf. Figure 18 View Figures 10–21 ), basal wing setae S1 and S2 capitate, S3 pointed. Tergite IX setae S1, S2 and S3 acute at apex, S1 on tergite VII finely pointed, on the other tergites blunt. Tube short, about twice as long as basal width (cf. Figure 31 View Figures 22–31 ). Male with pseudovirga slender, narrowed towards apex ( Figure 41 View Figures 35–48 ).
