Genus Lonchaea Fallén, 1820 View in CoL

Lonchaea enderleini McAlpine, 1960 View in CoL and Lonchaea togoensis ( Enderlein, 1927) View in CoL . Both of these species were described from holotype females and the male terminalia have not been previously illustrated. The identities of the males illustrated here are based on specimens agreeing with the key characters of the female holotypes.

Both species were originally included in the genus Mastigimas Enderlein, 1927 View in CoL now regarded as a junior synonym of Lonchaea View in CoL . McAlpine, 1960: 357 defined the L. togoensis View in CoL species-group which also includes L. enderleini View in CoL enderleini (= Mastigimas coeruleus Enderlein ) and L. haplosetifera McAlpine, 1960 View in CoL . The three known members of the group have a single dorsocentral bristle (usually two in Lonchaea spp. ) a highly polished blue-black body and a long thin postpedicel, usually 3x as long as deep, but otherwise seem to be typical Lonchaea species.
