Type:— GUATEMALA. Santa Rosa: Volcan Tecuamburro, 2000 m, Feb 1893, E.T. Heyde & E. Lux 4538 (holotype GH 00063304!, isotypes BM 000617622, F V0043830F!, K 000587854!, M 0183512!, US 00111882!).
Treelets or shrubs 1.5–6 m tall. Petioles 0.5–1.2 cm long; blades 3–12 × 1.8–4.5 cm, membranaceous, elliptic to ovate, base obtuse to acute, apex acuminate, margin entire, glabrous on both sides, to spreading pubescence abaxially. Inflorescence 1–4 flowers, peduncle 1–5 mm; bracts 2.5–6 mm long, ovate-lanceolate to linear, greenish to scarious; pedicels 4–8 mm long; sepals equal to subequal, (0.5) 0.8–1.0 cm long, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, obtuse to acute, conspicuous venation; corolla narrowly infundibuliform, yellow, lower tube 1.1–1.5 × 0.3–0.6 cm, twisted around the anthers, five staminal ridges present, upper tube 0.3–0.65 × 0.6–0.8 cm, slightly campanulate, white, suprastaminal corona of five wing-shaped lobes present, opposite the anthers, along the tube, limb lobes 1.5–2 × 1.5–1.7 cm, obovate; stamens inserted above the middle of the corolla tube, anthers 3–4 mm long, included, yellow; pistil 0.7–1.5 cm long, nectary present. Follicles 2.5–3.7 × 1.8–2 cm, obliquely ellipsoid, apiculate, with 2 lateral ridges, not lenticellate, greenish to brownish, smooth to striate, glabrous; seeds 8–9 mm long.
Habitat and phenology:— Evergreen forest and secondary vegetation, from 130– 662 m. Flowering and fruiting from February to July.
Distribution: —In Mexico (Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Veracruz, Fig. 6c View FIGURE 6 ), Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
Conservation status: —Endangered (EN). T. eubracteata is restricted to a few localities in Mexico (EOO 25,381 km 2 and AOO 20 km 2), corresponding to less than 1% of the country. Although it can tolerate some anthropogenic impact, it grows in zones with significant deforestation, such as Tabasco ( Pérez et al. 2005). The individuals in this state represent the populations most at risk of extinction. Here, we suggest assigning the category of endangered.
