Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Türkiye: European Black Sea watersheds. ― Distribution in river basins: 1-Meriç-Ergene, 2-Marmara, 24-Aras. ― General distribution: Asia: Distribution: Europe to western Asia. ― Distribution in ecoregions: 423-Thrace, 434-Kura - South Caspian Drainages. ― Habitat: This species is found in open water in large and mid-sized lowland rivers and large lakes. Spawns on gravel or submerged vegetation in fast-flowing water. Lake populations migrate to tributaries. Freshwater, brackish.
Economic importance. Commercially important.
