1. Carex sect. Radicales ( Kükenthal 1909: 480) Nelmes (1951: 389) . Type:— Carex radicalis Boott.
Involucral bracts leaf-like, longer than inflorescence, long sheathed, rarely scale-like. Spikes androgynous, 1 to several, usually remote. Staminate and pistillate scales obtuse or acute, rarely awned at apex. Perigynia compressed trigonous, pubescent, hispidulous, or glabrous, usually ciliate on margins, many veined, abruptly contracted into a short beak at apex. Style base usually thickened, sparsely pubescent or densely brown granular-punctate; stigmas 3.
There are about 15 species, mainly distributed in Pan-Himalaya region. Twelve species with two varieties exist in
China ( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
