Key to the species of Apiochaeta View in CoL View at ENA .

1. First and second dorsocentral bristles as long as posterior bristle. At least one pair of lateral scutellar bristles subequal in length to apical scutellars. Three or four fronto-orbital bristles; mid fronto-orbital similar in length to posterior fronto-orbital. Head height more than ¾ width ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1&2 ). Face elongate and sunken ventrally ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1&2 ). Frons evenly pilose and without shiny posterolateral region. Gena without horizontal bands. Legs yellow, sometimes with femora and distal tarsomeres brown. Distiphallus slender apically ( Fig. 37 View FIGURES 35–38 ). Segments 6–8 of female abdomen strongly telescoped; tergite 7 usually large and conical with central longitudinal desclerotization. Spermathecal duct entirely unpigmented ( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 10&11 )..........................2

- First and second dorsocentral bristles short, conspicuously shorter than posterior bristle. Lateral scutellar bristles much shorter than apical scutellars. Three fronto-orbital bristles; mid fronto-orbital 1/2–2/3 length of other fronto-orbitals ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1&2 ). Head height approximately 2/3 width ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1&2 ). Face flat, and as wide (or wider) than long. Posterior corners of frons to base of posterior fronto-orbital shiny and brown to dark yellow. Gena with dorsal white tomentose band, median yellow tomentose band, and ventral yellow shiny band. Fore tibia and tarsi brown.
