Ontholestes callistus ( Hochhuth, 1849) View in CoL , first record from China

( Figs. 3A–H View FIGURES 3 A – H )

Hochhuth, 1849: 114; Bernhauer and Schubert, 1914: 392; Smetana, 1959: 410; Gusarov, 1991: 8; Smetana and Davies, 2000: 38; Herman, 2001: 3424; Smetana, 2004: 679.

Material examined: CHINA: 1 male, Xinjiang, Urumqi, 1955. VIII.8, Shijun Ma, Kailing Xia and Yonglin Chen coll. ( IZCAS); 1 male, 3 females, Xinjiang, 1500–2000 m, NW slope of Bogda Shan, 115 km E Urumqi, 10 km N Tianchi, 1993. V.18–19. J. Kaláb coll. ( NMW); 1 male, Xinjiang, 1500–2000 m, NW slope of Bogda Shan, 115 km E Urumqi, 10km N Tianchi, 1993. V.18–19, Jaroslav Turna coll. ( NMW).

Remarks. In habitus, the species is similar to O. murinus ( Linné, 1758) , but differs from the latter in the shape of head, mandibles and male genitalia. Although the type material of O. callistus ( Hochhuth, 1849) was not available for our study, identity of this species was clear to us from the original description ( Hochhuth 1849) and the paper of Smetana (1959). That species was known from Azerbaijan and Iran ( Herman 2001). Based on the material examined here, now it is also recorded in China.
