Ecology. Wet meadows (Karaman & Stojanović 1995), forest soils, pastures, rivers, limestone rocks, roadside bush (Szederjesi 2013).

Distribution in Montenegro. Northern Montenegro: Ališnica, Savin Kuk II (Mršić 1983; 1990), Bobotov Kuk, Zupci, Indjini dolovi, Zeleni Vir-Surutka, Gornja Počivala, Tepca, Virak (Mršić 1990), Crno jezero (Mršić 1991; Karaman & Stojanović 1995), Žabljak (Karaman & Stojanović 1995); eastern Montenegro: Prokletije-Čakor (Šapkarev 1975; Mršić 1991), Planina Vuča, Bjelašnica (Mršić 1991), Bijelo Polje (Karaman & Stojanović 1995), Biogradska gora, Orjen (Stojanović & Karaman 2003), Lim valley, River Lim (Szederjesi 2013).

Zoogeographical distribution type. Dinaric-Alpine species occurring in Italy, Poland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Serbia (Mršić 1991; Stojanović et al. 2008; Szederjesi & Csuzdi 2012).

Remarks. Although other findings (Omodeo & Rota 1989; Rota 2005) suggest that Ap. smaragdina is as well present in the Near East (northern and eastern Turkey), Csuzdi et al. (2006) take these data with reservation due to incomplete descriptions of the examined specimens.
