Genus Mata Distant, 1906 View in CoL
Mata Distant, 1906: 119 View in CoL . Type species: Pomponia kama Distant, 1881 View in CoL .
Diagnosis. Body small to medium-sized, head including eyes as wide as base of mesonotum and distinctly shorter than the distance between eyes; rostrum reaching the posterior coxae. Pronotum shorter than mesonotum; pronotal collar narrow with posterior lateral margins ampliated. Wings hyaline, with 8 and 6 apical cells on forewing and hindwing, respectively. Male abdomen short, as long as the distance from head to cruciform elevation; timbal covers completely concealing timbals dorsally; male opercula short, transverse, not adjoined or overlapped at inner margins.
Remarks. Mata can be distinguished from other genera within Oncotympanini ( Oncotympana Stål, 1870 and Neoncotympana Lee, 2010 ) by the following characteristics: timbals mostly concealed by timbal covers in dorsal view (timbals completely concealed by timbal covers in Oncotympana and Neoncotympana ); timbal covers flat (timbal covers prominently globose in Oncotympana and Neoncotympana ); uncal lobes not bifurcated (uncal lobes bifurcated in Oncotympana and Neoncotympana ).
