Genus Gymnochilus Eichhoff, 1868 View in CoL
Gymnochilus glaber (Schedl, 1951)
= Scolytodes schoenmanni Wood, 2007 View in CoL . New
synonymy.
Cusco:Marcapata ( Wood 2007). Junín:Satipo (Río
Venado vill.), 1,500–1,600 m, A. Petrov (APP-4).
Comments. Gymnochilus glaber was regarded as a member of Scolytodes by Wood (2007) because of its 6-segmented funicle, “ Scolytodes structure”- type of pronotum, and “lack other essential characters”. Because Scolytodes glaber is preocupied by Scolytodes glaber Eichhoff ( Eichhoff 1868) , Wood (2007) proposed a new replacement name, Scolytodes shoenmanni, for Hexacolus glaber Schedl. Alexander Petrov studied the male holotype of G. glaber in NMW and made a slide mount of the antenna. On the slide, it was obvious that the funicle is 7-segmented, not 6-segmented. The " Scolytodes structure" of the pronotum is a poor character to base generic placement as the pronotal form in such a morphologically diverse genus as Scolytodes differs significantly. In addition, the form and coloring of the pronotum, stout body, and elytral vestiture with bristles are quite characteristic of Gymnochilus .
* Gymnochilus consocius (Blandford, 1897)
