Comments. There are 8 known species of Belminus distributed in Peru ( B. peruvianus Herrer, Lent & Wygodzinsky ), Brazil ( B. laportei Lent, Jurberg & Carcavallo ), Venezuela ( B. pittieri Osuna & Ayala , B. rugulosus ), Colombia ( B. corredori Galvão & Ángulo , B. ferroae Sandoval, Pabón, Jurberg & Galvão , B. herreri Lent & Wygodzinsky , B. rugulosus ), Panama ( B. herreri ), Costa Rica ( B. costaricensis Herrer, Lent & Wygodzinsky ), and Mexico ( B. costaricensis ) ( Lent & Wygodzinsky 1979; Galvão et al. 2003; Sandoval 2007). Species belonging to this genus have been sporadically collected in evergreen tropical forests in which the annual mean temperature is between 20–25° C and the annual precipitation average is about 2000 mm ( Carcavallo et al. 1995, Gaunt & Miles 2000).
