Ilyocryptus spinifer Herrick, 1882 View in CoL

This is a new record for Tajikistan, its population was found in Lake Jirikul, Tigrovaya Balka National Reserve (loc. 2). Ilyocryptus spinifer is a cosmopolitan species with mostly tropical range; some populations reach the Russian Far East and South European Russia on the north ( Korovchinsky & Kotov 2021). Recently it has expanded its distribution range towards the north (Zhikha rev et al. 2020). I. spinifer occurs in a variety of waterbodies, including saline lagunes and estuaries ( Paranaguá et al. 2005; Santangelo et al. 2011; 2014). The species has never been reported from Middle Asia. For a morphological description, see Kotov & Stifter (2006).
