Andrena cryptanthae is named for the plant for which it specializes on the pollen from, Cryptantha Lehm. ex. G.Don. (Thorp 1987). This species has been historically collected in the Coastal Sage Matorral and in the Baja California Mountains at Sierra San Pedro Mártir, BC ( LaBerge 1986). The BBPT collected five females and two males in Chaparral habitat at Rancho La Concepción in Sierra San Pedro Mártir in April 2023 ( MABC). See fig. 13.
