[ Lectotype: ZMUC; ♀ America ; Bombus (Fervidobombus) californicus Smith, 1854 (synonym) type: NHMUK; ☿ California, USA]

The individuals of this species inhabiting Baja California exhibit the coloration pattern of Bombus californicus . However, due to the lack of evidence supporting its status as a distinct species, we follow the treatment of Williams et al. (2014). Bombus fervidus is categorized as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List ( IUCN 2022). This species has been reported in the Coastal Sage Matorral, Chaparral, and Baja California Mountains with vouchered specimens in LACM, UCRC, SEMC ( GBIF 2023). During this project, it has been recorded exclusively in the Coastal Sage Matorral in April and May 2021; and May 2022. Voucher specimens are in MABC (1 ♀, 1 ♂), and ECOAB (1 ♀). See fig. 85.
